Internationally renowned photographer, David Vance goes beyond mere mortals and brings his “Heavenly Bodies” exhibit to the Dennis Dean Galleries in Wilton Manors, Florida through the month of February. There will be an artist’s reception from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, hosted by Managing Partners Dennis Dean and Mario Careaga with special LIVE entertainment by Richard Cortez.
The exhibit is in conjunction with the release of Vance’s latest book of his photography, “Heavenly Bodies” which was released in the United States in June 2009 by Bruno Gmünder Publishing. In “Heavenly Bodies”, the Miami-based star photographer presents the male body – so perfect and dedicated, that you actually gain the impression of having access to some higher places.
These pictures of Vance’s stand in the tradition of the demigods from Greek mythology as well as the paintings of Michelangelo. They show models, whose beauty is so sublime that the man himself appears to be a piece of art, breathtaking and immaculate: athletic like Adonis with a skin of alabaster. And in addition those heavenly guys are equipped with a pretty earthly sex appeal. Vance knows how to combine sex and beauty like no one else. He stokes the viewer’s desire and yet he still touches his mind.
This exhibit and book are a hymn to the male body. Vance himself wrote that his photographs don’t emerge in a conscious process, “these images just happen” and that’s okay with us.
Now, over 30 years later, David Vance, in addition to photographing men, has enjoyed a successful career photographing advertising and editorial assignments for Cosmopolitan, Entertainment Weekly, Interview, Men's Health, Rolling Stone, Tennis, Uomo and Harper's Bazaar, Italia.
