ArtExplosion 10 International LGBT Arts Festival opens February 6, 2010 at ArtServe Gallery with the opening reception of one of the largest juried art exhibits by gay and lesbian artists in the country. The theme of the opening night event is “Carnaval!” in celebration of this year’s spotlight country, Brazil, with Brazilian artists and performers highlighted that night and throughout the festival. Over 500 guests will be greeted by Carmen Miranda (Eva Weiner), enjoy Brazilian music by DJ Just Oliver, Capoeira by Academy of Copoeira Corpo e Movimento by Mestre Pele, Samba by Brazilian & Latin Sounds Co. by Paulo Gualano ., performance by Indio Jackson, plus the one-night-only Mark’s List erotic art exhibit, video installations, performance art, and complimentary wine bar and desserts. Carnaval costumes by Paulo Gualano Latin Sound Co. and brazilian food provided by local Brazilian restaurants will set the mood for one diversão night.
The ArtExplosion Fine Arts Exhibit presents the best work of local lgbt artists and will be on display from February 1-20. Prizes are awarded for Best of Show, Best of Class for Photography, Painting, Drawing/Print, and Mixed Media/3-D. The Juror this year is Alyx Kellington, Director of Arts & Cultural Education for the Palm Beach County Cultural Council. With a diploma in Photojournalism from the New England School of Photography in Boston, Ms. Kellington is a professional photojournalist, and her photos have been widely published. Guests on Opening Night will select a People's Choice Award. The exhibit is free and open to the public, except for Opening Night which will request a $10 donation at the door.
