Tuta Veloso was born in May 1969, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Since childhood Tuta has connected with arts reciting poetry in first grade and acting in children’s theater and teaching Lambada dance in his teens around his hometown. At age of 18, he moved to the capital city of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, to study art restoration. To pay for his studies he worked with fashion designers where he helped photographers create catalogs for the fashion industry.
His own awakening as a photographer was in august of 2001 after moving to the United States and shooting the twin towers in NYC. That photo was the beginning of his passion. Influenced by such artists as Sebastião Salgado, Marcos Prado, William Wegman, and Salvador Dali, Tuta has continued to hone his craft and has being shown his art work at Storks Bakery, 101 art Gallery, Art Expression Gallery, Stonewall library, The Firm Fitness Center and in soon at the South Point Gallery in south beach, and at the new art Gallery XO. He recently won the Peoples Choice Award at last year’s United & Proud art exhibition for his photograph "Muscle Toy" and has been invited to show in Madrid/Spain next April.
Tuta was instrumental in helping ArtsUnited promote the art of his birth country Brazil during ArtExplosion and encourage participation by other Brazilian talent. His work will be shown throughout the month of February in the George Hester Gallery at Stonewall library & Archives where he will exhibit an eclectic collection of photographs of plants, animals, man, and buildings. His work will also be on display in the Erotic Gallery during the festival’s Opening Night Carnaval!
